Office professional training is one of the most diverse programs available. The skills obtained through the program can be applied to many different types of industries. It takes the hard work of one or many trained office professionals to keep a business running smoothly. Narrowing down which industry you want will help you really get the most out of your office professional training program, and make the job search after graduation less overwhelming.

Here’s a short list of some of the most sought after careers requiring office professional training.

Customer Service

A business can see a dramatic decrease in business if they have a reputation of bad customer service. If you have a friendly demeanor and a passion for quality service, a customer service job may be the office professional career for you. A customer service concentration could mean working as a receptionist in a spa or answering questions at a retail store exchange counter.

Accounting

Companies need the talent of trained and trustworthy office professionals to keep their finances in order. An office professional looking to work in an accounting environment will usually find positions like accounting clerk, payroll administrator, or financial assistant. Knowledge of the most up to date computer software is an attractive quality for these positions. Look for an office professional program that will use modern technology and new software in their curriculum.

Medical

An office professional position in the medical field has the most opportunities out of the three industries. The healthcare field has more positions available than any other career type. Even when the economy is at an all time low and jobs are hard to find, people still need healthcare. This creates a massive amount of open job opportunities for trained medical professionals. A medical office professional can work in many different environments. These can range from dentist offices to nursing homes. A few examples of typical roles are medical receptionists, medical coding and billers, and medical record assistants.

Would you like to hear more about valuable office professional training? Take a few seconds to fill out the brief information form to the right of the page and a Sullivan and Cogliano representative will be in touch with you to answer all of your questions. Here at Sullivan and Cogliano, we believe in customized hands-on training programs to help you find a successful career that’s right for you. Get started on a career as a highly demanded Office Professional today!

Dear Ana & Angel:

Just wanted to tell you that I believe that being a volunteer for the VITA Program may have played a big part in UM’s decision to hire me. Both ladies that I interviewed with were very impressed that I had volunteered for the IRS.

In the Student Meeting yesterday at Sullivan & Cogliano, Katya asked me to share my interview experience with the students. I told them to be prepared for the very first question they will be asked – “Tell me about yourself”. Angel, I remember this was in one of your lectures and those of us who attended had the opportunity to practice and role play. I also told the students yesterday that when Ana comes to recruit volunteers for the VITA Program to make sure that they sign up because not only will they be giving back to the community but being able to put the IRS on the resume is certainly a plus.

Angel, Thank you so much for recognizing my ablilty and potential to be an instructor. If it were not for you, it would not have happened because I never thought of doing something like that although I would have volunteered.

Ana, Thank you for giving me the opportunity to volunteer, take on the role of Instructor and Site Coordinator. It certainly was an excellent experience. Helping the taxpayers and seeing how grateful they were, working with a team of dedicated volunteers and at the end attending the various recognition ceremonies, and meeting Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen was priceless.

Now it’s time for the start of another chapter, this time with UM. I am so excited to be joining this fantastic organization.

Well, take care and I’ll be in touch.

Dawn Fong

“I went to upgrade my career, even change my career, because I used to be a translator and editor. Now I figured out that the market is very tough for both translators and editors. At the One Stop Career Center, they informed me about the South Florida Work Force Innovation Agency where I went to a session. It immediately caught my attention because of the way they exposed the objectives of the school and the training center, which had a lot to do with what I needed in order to get a job.

I was more excited than nervous. I’m studying to be a Microsoft Office Specialist with some medical skills, too. It was very exciting to go back to school as a student and also go back to the books! This school is amazingly friendly. It has an amazingly friendly environment, and the teachers are great.
The instructors and placement specialists do help us a lot to start regaining that confidence you lose when you’re looking for a job for a very long time. They really get a result with what they have, and that is what counts for me!”

“I went to a job fair, and as I went in, Josie was there – they (Sullivan and Cogliano) had a table, and they explained all about Sullivan and Cogliano. At that point, I gave my name and number, then they called me. Awhile back I had checked through a few other places, but I never bothered. It just seemed like a different atmosphere…very comfortable.

They’re here, they work with you, and they spend time with you. If you don’t understand something, they are there to help explain. They make it easy. They make it fun! They also make it inspirational. It’s enjoyable. You have the book, and the book is very simple. It explains in different terms. They also have different learning ways for different people. Say if you’re a person that finds it easier to listen, you can put on earphones and plug it in. You follow the mouse, they ask you questions, and you answer them. It’s very simple!

On my first day, I just relaxed. You know, I thought about it and said “Okay, I’m here!” I needed to do this. I had to make a change. They do help, they’re always there when you need them, and someone comes there. It’s so One on One. They explain it, if you don’t understand it, they’re there (to help). The best way to do it is just come in and start doing it!”

“I picked up the flyer, and I was scrolling through then I was like “Okay…Sullivan and Cogliano. Let’s find out about the school.” So I called in and got my Admissions Representative Josie (Rodriguez) then it went from there! I’d went to several other campuses, however Josie stuck out more than the rest. Much more than the rest. It’s not a huge school and you didn’t feel forced. Like I said, I talked with Josie first, so when I spoke to her, her voice over the phone was just warming.

It’s just, I guess, the person’s personality (for me). When you first get that voice over the phone, and they make you feel warm and welcome, you already know that you’re just a step more to going to visit the campus.

I’m studying medical billing and coding. It’s a combined course with Office Professional. I was nervous at first, but after the first day and getting the feel of everybody, I was good. But I knew I had kids at home, so if I’m going to be pushing them towards their future, I had to go forward with mine. I think it sets a wonderful example for my kids because of course if Mom is going out and going to school and studying in her books, then they mimic that. So if kids are mimicking their parents, they obviously have to succeed, which makes you want to succeed!

It’s been good because my kids are in school from 7:30am sometimes until 1:50pm or 2:50pm, so it gives me a chance to be here while they’re in school so I don’t have to worry about who’s going to pick up the kids, who’s going to help me out, or who’s going to do this, etc. The hours are so flexible that I can do this and still manage to get home and do what I normally do with my kids!

We received this letter from ProMedical Plan PHC Inc. about how happy they’ve been with our graduates.

To Whom It May Concern,

It is a pleasure to write this testimonial in gratitude to Sullivan and Cogliano Training Centers, Inc., for their invaluable and constant support.

ProMedical Plan PHC, Inc. is a State Licensed PrePaid Health Clinic and a Discount Medical Plan Organization founded in 1998. We administer a Health Plan covering the counties of Dade, Broward, Palm Beach in South Florida. And Seminole, Hillsborough, Osceola, Orange and Polk in Central Florida.

I remember a few years back, when Angel S. Llamazares, Career Services Team Leader at Sullivan and Cogliano, called me asking if we would like to be involved in the Internship Program. This call could have not been better timed. We were going through an exceptional workload season not only because of the launching of our Health Plan in Central Florida, but also because a couple of our associates being away on vacation and another on sick leave.

Must admit, I was kind of hesitant in having an Intern. But the stress at our office was such that I agreed to participate. I was given a choice of 4 candidates of which I selected Theresa because of her personality. She assisted us in various departments: Customer Service, Front Desk and also in Provider Relations. Theresa would accept any assignation regardless the degree of responsibility. This was an exceptional experience. She brought relief to us and her performance was impeccable.

Since then, I have continued working with Lesli Heyser, Job Development Specialist and several other Career Service Staff at Sullivan and Cogliano. They are always there to assist us. I openly recommend this Internship program to any employer. Give an Intern the opportunity to lend you a hand and to develop his/her abilities. They are priceless.

ProMedical Plan PHC Inc. looks forward to a long and prosperous business relationship with Sullivan and Cogliano with the hope of improving the workforce in America.

Sincerely,
C. Osorno
Operations Manager

“I used to sell tiles for a tile distributor, and the market is not doing so well in real estate. I thought, well let me enhance my skills and try to do something else besides sales. I applied for a program they have called Microsoft Office Specialist. Right now, that is what I’m taking. I didn’t think it was going to be as good as it is now. You never know what to expect when you go do something new. So far, I mean, the faculty’s been really attentive about what I need to learn and they are always there. It doesn’t matter what type of question I come up with – they are always there, and they find a way to explain it so I can understand what I’m actually doing.

Well, I think I got really lucky. I was at this program called The South Florida Workforce, and through them is how I came about knowing Sullivan and Cogliano Training Centers. Before I got accepted to Sullivan and Cogliano, I did some homework (some research), and I learned that they actually started out as a job agency. At the time, they had a lot of people that needed jobs, but these people didn’t have the skills for the jobs that they could provide for them. So I thought, if I get in here, not only am I going to get skills or even upgrade my skills, but I’m going to actually get a job placement.

I have a beautiful nine year old daughter. Going to school here, I use that as a tool – I tell her “Look baby, Daddy’s going to school right now and you can help Daddy with his homework!”
